The province of Gelderland is an industrial region and home to the well-known applied research clusters: Food Valley and Health Valley. Gelderland is strategically located, closely to Europe's largest market: Germany.
The province of Gelderland, the largest province of the Netherlands, has a land surface of 5,136.5 square kilometers with an average population density of 398 per square kilometer. More than 1.9 million people live in the four regions of the province (Veluwe, Achterhoek, Arnhem-Nijmegen and South-West Gelderland).
Its numerous office and business sites are home to more than 104,000 companies, including multinationals, internationally oriented high-tech companies and businesses specializing in distribution and logistic services. Gelderland has a highly educated workforce. The two universities, in Wageningen and Nijmegen, and the numerous colleges of higher education (higher vocational) and regional training centers (senior vocational) offer courses in a wide variety of subjects. There is an international primary and secondary school in Arnhem, the province's administrative center.
